The mcrypt extension was deprected and openssl is suggested instead. But when I tried to follow recommendations I obtained the openssl_descrypt function still not fully documented. So how should I replace deprecated mcrypt_* functions if I have no documented alternative?

Note that libsodium will be added in PHP 7.2 to replace mcrypt.
