During ./configure:

creating libtool
appending configuration tag "yes" to libtool
configure: error: Unsupported tag name: yes

configure then quits.

This has been an issue with PHP for a long time. The version of libtool bundled into the PHP make system is an older version than the one available on my system. In the past I have tried to force PHP install to use the system's version of libtool without success. FreeBSD is version 8.0 but the version never mattered.

Also, under your "submit a bug about what" selector, 'libtool' does not appear at all, and there is not really any "Install-time" issues category, so I chose the closest match I could find.

Nobody's bothered to address this issue. To get around it in the field, one hacks "configure", finding all settings LIBTOOL= and replaces it with LIBTOOL=/usr/local/bin/libtool (at least three instances.) This worked for earlier versions of PHP. For 5.6.3 it partially finesses the LIBTOOL issue, giving complaints which don't indicate an inability to proceed with the make. So this is what to do in lieu of PHP ever fixing or acknowledging this issue.

I can't reproduce this on FreeBSD 11. It might be good an autoconf issue. What do you see in the Makefile for "LIBTOOL ="? Could you try to add --tag=CC in the makefile?
