In the manual, it says that PDFlib Lite can be used with PHP. One should refer the their website to learn about the restrictions of the Lite edition. But the external website doesn't even mention PDFlib Lite. Only an old document can be searched that states that the Lite edition is no longer maintained. So it's dead. The PDF section should be removed from the manual to save readers from wasting their time.

The extension seems to be fairly well maintained according to its release history:  http://pecl.php.net/package/pdflib

Maybe it only works with the commercial pdflib these days?

Rainer: Could you update the docs or explain things a little better?

This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.
