I'm sorry, I don't speak english very well, but I think there is a mistake in the "Example #1 Return first column of the next row" in the french version of the web site this isn't 
"print("Récupère la deuxième colonne depuis la ligne suivante d'un jeu de résultats :\n");
$result = $sth->fetchColumn();
print("couleur=$result\n");"

it lacks the number "1" as parameter of fetchColumn()

So this is:
print("Récupère la deuxième colonne depuis la ligne suivante d'un jeu de résultats :\n");
$result = $sth->fetchColumn(1);
print("couleur=$result\n");

This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.
