I've downloaded php5.4-201212011230.tar.xz and php_version.h has:

#define PHP_RELEASE_VERSION 0
#define PHP_EXTRA_VERSION "-dev"
#define PHP_VERSION "5.5.0-dev"
#define PHP_VERSION_ID 50500

Also NEWS file has 5.5 changelog instead of 5.4.
