Documentation suggestion:
1. This parameter doesn't really seem to be the "variable name" as stated by the documentation.  Wouldn't the variable name be "$_POST['key']" (or something similar)?  

2.  It seems that this parameter is really the KEY to the entry of the superglobal array (specified by the "type" parameter) that is to be filtered.
