pear -v install rar-beta
produces:
/tmp/tmpwPkrjs/rar-0.2/unrar/crc.cpp: In function 'uint CRC(uint, void*, uint)':
/tmp/tmpwPkrjs/rar-0.2/unrar/crc.cpp:23: error: cast from 'byte*' to 'int' loses precision
make: *** [unrar/crc.lo] Error 1
Same result with a manual install and make.

Please try with the latest CVS version (I've just updated bundled unrar to version 3.5.4, which should fix the problem).
