i use oci to insert data, but result is nothing

Test script:
---------------
$conn = oci_connect('username', 'password', 'HOST_IP/orcl', 'AR8MSWIN1256');
$query = 'INSERT INTO STUDENTS (IDNO, START_DATE) VALUES (:idno_v, :startDate_v)';

$stid = oci_parse($conn, $query);
$idno = 999;
$startDate = date("d-M-y");
oci_bind_by_name($stid, ':idno_v', $idno);
oci_bind_by_name($stid, ':startDate_v', $startDate);
oci_execute($stid);

Expected result:
----------------
show data in STUDENTS table

Actual result:
--------------
no data inserted
