Parse error (as unexpected $end) occures if '?>' is put into a single-string comment

Reproduce code:

<?php
function comments_test() {
    
    //?>

    //preg_match_all('~(?>\s)=~s', $str);

   }
?>



Expected result:
----------------
No parsing errors

Actual result:
--------------
PHP Parse error:  syntax error, unexpected $end in /Users/apple/serg.php on line 6
