Apparently, this[1] went nowhere.  If anybody is still interested
in these methods, please pursue the RFC process[2].  However,
since driver specific methods are frowned upon, I don't think an
RFC would pass (still, feel free to try), so I'm closing this
ticket as WONTFIX.
