Everything - more or less- considering NeXT systems,
compiled fine, however, the resulting file is a .a,
rather than a DSO - and I don't know how to tell libtool
to stop being stupid and broken and make a DSO!

:-(

Please read:

http://bugs.php.net/bugs-dos-and-donts.php

If php compiled fine, just not as a dso, there's a problem with the tool
you're using to create the dso, not php.

In any event, if the problem persists with a newer version of php, open
a new report with info on versions of related software in use, and your
./configure line.
