Hi! I was attempting to compile PHP with --enable-trans-sid, for transparent Session ID handling, as referenced in the "Session Handling" section of the PHP manual. However, whenever I do the compile crashes and dies at this spot:
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I/root/sources/php-4.0RC2/ext/standard -I/root/sources/php-4.0RC2 -I/root/sources/apache_1.3.12/src/include -I/root/sources/apache_1.3.12/src/os/unix -I/root/sources/php-4.0RC2/Zend -I/root/sources/php-4.0RC2 -I/root/sources/php-4.0RC2/ext/mysql/libmysql -I/root/sources/php-4.0RC2/ext/xml/expat/xmltok -I/root/sources/php-4.0RC2/ext/xml/expat/xmlparse  -DXML_BYTE_ORDER=12 -g -O2 -Wall  -c microtime.c && touch microtime.lo
microtime.c: In function `php_if_getrusage':
microtime.c:97: storage size of `usg' isn't known
microtime.c:100: `RUSAGE_SELF' undeclared (first use in this function)
microtime.c:100: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
microtime.c:100: for each function it appears in.)
microtime.c:106: `RUSAGE_CHILDREN' undeclared (first use in this function)
microtime.c:110: warning: implicit declaration of function `getrusage'
microtime.c:97: warning: unused variable `usg'

make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/sources/php-4.0RC2/ext'

Thinking it might have been something that got accidentally broken sometime in between RC1 and RC2, I tried it also with RC2:
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I/root/sources/php-4.0RC1/ext/standard -I../.. -I../../Zend -I/root/sources/php-4.0RC1 -I/root/sources/apache_1.3.12/src/include -I/root/sources/apache_1.3.12/src/os/unix -I/root/sources/php-4.0RC1/ext/mysql/libmysql -I/root/sources/php-4.0RC1/ext/xml/expat/xmltok -I/root/sources/php-4.0RC1/ext/xml/expat/xmlparse  -DXML_BYTE_ORDER=12 -D_REENTRANT -g -O2 -Wall  -c microtime.c && touch microtime.lo
microtime.c: In function `php_if_getrusage':
microtime.c:97: storage size of `usg' isn't known
microtime.c:100: `RUSAGE_SELF' undeclared (first use in this function)
microtime.c:100: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
microtime.c:100: for each function it appears in.)
microtime.c:106: `RUSAGE_CHILDREN' undeclared (first use in this function)
microtime.c:110: warning: implicit declaration of function `getrusage'
microtime.c:97: warning: unused variable `usg'

This happens whenever I use --enable-trans-sid on the configure command, and does not when I do not. So, if anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated. The complete configure lines (I used two diff on each version) are: "./configure --with-mysql --with-apache=../apache_1.3.12 [--enable-track-vars] --enable-trans-sid". So if its a user thing at my end (ie I forgot to turn something else on) it would be great to find out, or if it is really a valid bug. Thanks much!

Oh, right, also I just wanted to say you all are doing a great job and to keep up the good work. Excellent software you have here.

Erm, I typo'd in my message. The second compile/die message is from RC1.

Okay, upon further system testing (once my mental state had returned to something other that "WHY WONT IT COMPILE") I've discovered the following things:

1) with or without --enable-trans-sid, the compile failed.
2) Both RC's failed, and latest CVS failed, but for diff. reasons.

Now, as stated above, this machine runs 2.3.99-pre7. Mysql was compiled with the 2.3.99-pre7 kernel. PHP was dying while compiling under it.

So, thinking maybe something was up, I grabbed 2.3.99-pre8. (The kernel is the only diff between this machine and another one which compiled PHP just fine).

Compiled new kernel, attempted PHP. No luck. Reverted back to 2.2.15. Compiled PHP again, no luck.

BTW, each time I recompiled PHP with a diff kernel version I made distclean first.

So then on 2.2.15 I made distclean mysql (version 3.22.32) and recompiled. Recompiled PHP, works fine. I dunno if this helps you guys at all, but there it is. All the info I can think of. If you want any other infos, feel free to ask.

Make sure

- that you configured your kernel properly
- that the new shm fs is mounted

PHP works here successfully under 2.4.0-test1.

old version, no feedback. If it still happens with latest version, please reopen.
