I would like to see a new way to "show" am/pm (a)in short-hand.. a(for am) and p (for pm).

As this issue is by now more that 8 years old and targets an unsupported version of PHP I'm closing this.

Also the request can easily be handled by userland code like this:

$date = new DateTime();
echo substr($date->format('a'), 0, 1);
?>
