I try to compile under RedHat 6.2 (Apache 1.3.12 and MySQL 3.22.32 both installed from RPM's), with 

"./configure --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --enable-discard-path --with-ftp --with-gettext --with-imap=/usr/include/imap --with-ldap --with-mysql --with-zlib=/usr/include"

After some editing of the configurescript (RH seems to put some things in strange places), this runs just fine.

When doing a "make", the compile fails:

Fixed in CVS, and note that --enable-discard-path has no meaning when compiling PHP as an Apache module.
I also really doubt that your libimap.a and libzlib.a are installed in your include directories.
Try a snapshot from http://snaps.php.net and fix your configure switches.
