When a commit is too large for the mailing lists (I'm not sure how large is too large, but a limit exists) an email is not sent to the appropriate mailing list. Please make it at least send an email saying a commit was made, show the changed files, and by who.

So basically the only difference is that an attachment (with the diff) would not be included in the email.

This is important so changes are not lost in the shuffle.
