It also ignores all the rest of the metacharacters [:space:] [:alnum:] [:digit:] and so on

Reproduce code:

  if(ereg("[:digit:]", "1234", $regs))
  {
    print "true";
  }
  else
  {
    print "false";
  }
?>

Expected result:
----------------
true

Actual result:
--------------
false

It should be like this:
