Although this new country detection system is very fancy and all, I regret to say that some users may find it irritating. Many mirrors have automatic languages set, and for foreign people living in a different country this could be a problem. I live in the netherlands, and now, if I am looking for help op the site, i need to manually change the 'nl' to 'en' in the URL if I want to understand what the page says. I hope there is something you can do about that and would like to hear your comments on this.

Since I am contacting you anyways, let me congratulate the designers with an excellent website. It has helped me out millions of times.

Reinhardt Smit

Feel free to help us improve the dutch version ;)

Unfortunately, due to my extreme lack of time, I can not help with improving the dutch version, but what I would like is the option to choose to always have english text. I really cannot program or try to understand anything in dutch if it has to do with computers. It's a coincidence that I am able to speak dutch, but I am sure there are many people in The Netherlands that cannot speak dutch and would thus like to have the pages in english.

Dear Reinhardt!

Please enable cookies in your browser, and so the mirror sites will be able to remember that your preferred language is English for php.net. The last used language is always remembered in a cookie, and therefore if you go to an English manual page, next time any shortcut will lead to an English manual page too. You just need to have cookies enabled.

I have cookies enabled and everything. and I have selected my preference to be english. Yet it doesn't seem to help, so I thought it was.... overlooked

Hm, so you say you have checked /my.php and see that your language is set to English and your last viewed language is set to English, but still it is not used for shortcuts like /echo? Is this a right summarisation?
[2003-05-25 06:31 UTC] reinhardt at planetsmit dot com
Exactly. I have set it to english, and the page says that my last language was english, yet it still comes up in dutch. A friend of mine also tried it and has the same problem.

OK, so what Dutch mirror we are talking about? What is the exact name?

http://nl.php.net/manual/nl/function.time.php

that's the URL

Hm, I am afraid I cannot reproduce this. This mirror site works perfectly with the "last seen language" setting. Not just English, but also with other languages. Can you please try with some other browser?

http://nl.php.net/echo gives me the English version of the manual. Can you check what http://nl.php.net/my.php returns for the last used language and your browsers accept languages?
[2003-05-25 07:13 UTC] reinhardt at planetsmit dot com
that gives:
preferred language: Engligh
Last language: nl
Your accept...: en-gb
Mirror's Default: nl
Default: en

Jacques please read the comments added before ;)

If I do a search at php.net it redirects me to a dutch site.

If I go to the mirror directly, however, it remembers my settings and returns an english site.
 [2003-08-07 13:06 UTC] goba@php.net
Is this still a problem?
