Trying to build the CGI version of 4.0b2 on Solaris 2.6 using either gcc or Sun's Workshop Pro cc.

% ./configure
% make
...
cc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I/home/dvlp/crandall/src/php-4.0b2/./libzend -I. -g
-g -c zend_compile.c
"zend_compile.c", line 697: syntax error before or at: /
"zend_compile.c", line 700: warning: statement not reached
"zend_compile.c", line 718: syntax error before or at: void
"zend_compile.c", line 723: undefined symbol: last_op_number
"zend_compile.c", line 734: undefined symbol: ptr
"zend_compile.c", line 735: cannot recover from previous errors
cc: acomp failed for zend_compile.c
*** Error code 2
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `zend_compile.o'

I did note this message from configure,

configure: warning: You will need bison if you want to regenerate the Zend parser.

However, if bison is required for a simple configuration then configure should bail when
bison isn't found.

...

yacc   parsedate.y && mv y.tab.c parsedate.c
"parsedate.y", line 152: fatal: invalid escape, or illegal reserved word: expect
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `parsedate.c'

...
