Executing 'php --version'
causes "Segmentation fault"
on RH 8 (i386).
Also, Apache 2.0 hangs during opening .php pages.

Please disable the Zend Extensions from php.ini; my guess is that they are not compatible with PHP 4.3.0. (I see zm_activate_dbg in one of the last frames in your stack dump).
