from ZendEngine2/Zend.m4, this line:
    212   fprintf(fp, "%d %d", ZEND_MM_ALIGNMENT, zeros);
seems to need a newline at the end. without one, configure
gives an error at this test:

checking for MM alignment and log values... cut: stdin: line too long.

cut: stdin: line too long.

lines from configure are:
LIBZEND_MM_ALIGN=`cat conftest.zend | cut -d ' ' -f 1`
LIBZEND_MM_ALIGN_LOG2=`cat conftest.zend | cut -d ' ' -f 2`

This bug has been fixed in CVS.

In case this was a PHP problem, snapshots of the sources are packaged
every three hours; this change will be in the next snapshot. You can
grab the snapshot at http://snaps.php.net/.
 
In case this was a documentation problem, the fix will show up soon at
