Hello,

Spent all day trying to get this to work and finally did. Have seen many people reporting this problem here, on the newsgroups and at the mnogosearch site with PHP versions 4.0 through 4.2.1 and all versions of mnoGoSearch.

The problem is, although mnoGoSearch compiles correctly (note you need to compile is as a shared library and not a static library), PHP fails on compilation at the link stage claiming that -ludmsearch cannot be found. I believe that this only happens if --disable-rpath is passed in as one of the PHP configure options, which seems to be in common usage.

The following example *WORKS*. Instructions for breaking follow.

- download mnoGoSearch (latest version).
- configure mnoGoSearch with

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mnogosearch --enable-shared --enable-syslog --disable-linux-pthreads --disable-freebsd-pthreads --disable-charset-guesser --enable-parser --enable-mp3 --enable-aliasprog --disable-news-extension --enable-fast-tag --enable-fast-cat --enable-fast-site --enable-phrase --enable-exec-cgi --enable-file --enable-http --enable-ftp --enable-htdb --enable-news --with-pgsql

make
make install

- download php4.2.1 source code
- configure PHP with

'./configure' 'i386-redhat-linux' '--prefix=/usr' '--exec-prefix=/usr' '--bindir=/usr/bin' '--sbindir=/usr/sbin' '--sysconfdir=/etc' '--datadir=/usr/share' '--includedir=/usr/include' '--libdir=/usr/lib' '--libexecdir=/usr/libexec' '--localstatedir=/var' '--sharedstatedir=/usr/com' '--enable-inline-optimization' '--mandir=/usr/share/man' '--infodir=/usr/share/info' '--prefix=/usr' '--with-config-file-path=/etc' '--disable-debug' '--enable-pic' '--with-apxs' '--with-bz2' '--with-curl' '--with-db3' '--with-dom' '--with-exec-dir=/usr/bin' '--with-gd' '--with-gdbm' '--with-gettext' '--with-jpeg-dir=/usr' '--with-mm' '--with-openssl' '--with-png' '--with-regex=system' '--with-ttf' '--with-zlib' '--with-layout=GNU' '--enable-versioning' '--with-system-regex' '--enable-track-vars' '--without-gd' '--without-mysql' '--with-zlib' '--with-pgsql' '--with-openssl' '--enable-ucd-snmp-hack' '--without-mysql' '--without-unixODBC' '--without-oracle' '--without-oci8' '--with-xml' '--with-dom=/usr/local' '--enable-ftp' '--with-mnogosearch=/usr/local/mnogosearch' '--enable-bcmath' '--enable-sockets' '--enable-sysvsem' '--enable-sysvshm' '--enable-trans-sid' '--enable-debugger' '--enable-magic-quotes' '--enable-safe-mode' '--enable-track-vars' '--enable-wddx'

make
mkdir libs
make install

If you add '--disable-rpath' to the PHP configure line above, then it breaks. All the examples I have seen where problems have arisen with mnoGoSearch seem to contain this configure option.

Hope this helps.

The latest mnogosearch doesn't work with 4.2.1. You better ask the mnogosearch author which version is supposed to work with which PHP version.

Um, forgive me but so far as I can tell both PHP and mnoGoSearch seem to be fine if compiled as shown. I have it quite happily indexing and searching my site. I had a previous 4.0.x version of PHP that I had to upgrade from an RPM to source compile. PHP is now at 4.2.1 . I have it working with the latest stable release of mnoGoSearch, 3.2.2 . Try it if you like.

*LOVE PHP*
