I tried to run buildconf but it creates a link to libzend inside the php4
directory pointing to ../libzend (which does not exist) and enters an
infinite loop. Here's the output.

created or modified aclocal.m4
automake: configure.in: installing `./mkinstalldirs'
automake: configure.in: installing `./missing'
created or modified configure
./buildconf: libzend: No such file or directory
ln: ./libzend: File exists
ln: ./TSRM: File exists
keeping aclocal.m4
keeping configure
./buildconf: libzend: No such file or directory

Of course, you also need libzend and TSRM to build the cvs. We will setup detailed instructions later.

libzend and TSRM (which need to be in php4/..) can be found on the following cvs server:

cvs.zend.com

username: cvsread
password: zend

$ cvs -d :pserver:cvsread@cvs.zend.com:/repository login
(enter zend)
$ cvs -d :pserver:cvsread@cvs.zend.com:/repository co libzend
$ cvs -d :pserver:cvsread@cvs.zend.com:/repository co TSRM
$ cd php4 && ./buildconf
