$result=iconv("gbk","utf-8",$string);
The length of string is 348. 
On a win2k box with IIS 5.0 and php 4.2.1,the result is right,the length of result is 441.
On a redhat 7.1 linux box ,glibc 2.2.4,php 4.2.1,the length of result is 473,and the return string = the right string + some random garbage char.
