The following code fragment:
--------------------
$array[0] = "something";
$array[1] = "strange";
$array[2] = "here";

unset($array[1]);

echo "count: " . count($array) . "<br>\n";
echo join($array,":");
--------------------

Produces the following output:
--------------------
count: 2
something::here
--------------------

There shouldn't be more than one colon, right? Or how should I otherwise get completely rid of an element in an array?
