for ($i;$i<1000;$i++) { $foo=utf8_encode('test' . $i); $foo2=utf8_decode('test' . $i); } Gives random segfaults and various unwanted side effects (killing other variables, messing with functions etc etc). The segfaults happen randomly, you need to reload the page many times (20 to 30) to get it to crash. More serious pages (with many variables etc) will crash much sooner. Loaded modules: xml, ldap and pgsql. My brother had, by pure incident, also problems with xml today; he has a totally different setup (most stuff compiled in, only Interbase module loaded) but was able to reproduce the problem. Problem also acknowledged with 4.0.3pl1.
