When filling out a bug report for the php.net web site, i need to give a PHP Version. ...? What version is this suppose to be, the version of the php i am using or the version of php the web site is running off of.

if it is my php version, i may not be running php. if it is the php.net web site version, how do i know?

I suggest, if someone fills out a report for the php web site, that the php version is not needed or is automatically displayed as the current php version the php.net web site is running.

This problem may apply to other categories like PEAR and Documentation.

Brendan

PHP version is not relevant in PHP.net bugs and doc bugs, etc. We have not added any solution for this to avoid having to split the form to two pages (to select the type first) or to add some Javascript...

Some solution is surely needed, you are not the first to ask this as far as I remember.

B.t.w. you can know the version of the PHP site (if you really do want to know), by going to the following URL: http://www.php.net/mirror-info.php

Well, mirror-info is absolutely not for users. And there is no point in having any PHP version info asked from users for PHP.net related bugs, as there are several PHP versions working (starting from 4.0.6) on the 100 mirror sites.

Maybe, if a php.net category is filled out, after you submit the report, the next page will decide not to complain. The page could even save the php version as "not relevant" if the php.net category was selected. I would hesitate to offer "not relevant" as a selection in the version box as some people may incorrectly select the "not relevant" option when dealing with a version.

Is this clear?

Well, you perfectly described why we have not added an "irrelevant" selection to the bugs dropdown. Maybe we can try to start off with some JS tricks?

This bug has been fixed in CVS.

In case this was a PHP problem, snapshots of the sources are packaged
every three hours; this change will be in the next snapshot. You can
grab the snapshot at http://snaps.php.net/.

In case this was a documentation problem, the fix will show up soon at
http://www.php.net/manual/.

In case this was a PHP.net website problem, the change will show
up on the PHP.net site and on the mirror sites in short time.

Thank you for the report, and for helping us make PHP better.
