This bug was found with horde2/imp3. When logging into a Courier IMAP server I found I could not login successfully. By use of tcpdump and comparing the behaviour of php/imap and mutt in imap client mode I was able to determine that mutt is quoting the username/password (e.g. LOGIN "username" "password") whereas the php application was not.

This only shows up because I had special characters in my IMAP password. I am able to workaround the problem by using a different password.

The RFC does not say that these always have to be quoted.
So if some braindead imap server requires it, feel free
to add those yourself.

(or this is the responsibility of c-client, in which case: report this to the author of it)

Not PHP bug.
