I am trying to prepare PHP on the new Red Hat 5.2 platform.

This uses apache 1.3.3

I am being asked to save the file (Apache won't process .php3 pages).

/usr/sbin/httpd -l reports:
http_core.c
mod_so.c
mod_php.c

srm.conf contains the required AddType, and inserting garbage prevents server startup.

mod_php.c is PHP2. RedHat-5.2 ships with a source RPM of PHP3, or better yet, grab the current tarballs of both Apache and PHP and build your own.
