This has cropped up a few times on the list, but getting mcrypt support working under php 4.0.2 appears broken. If someone could confirm that it compiled in properly, and that the functions can then be used, it would be great if they were specific about which versions of packages were used.

It works fine here. What is the exact error you got?
Could you please pport the appriopriate piece of config.log here?

Sure, I'm actually in the midst of midterms, but shuld be done by Friday.... Will get a log in here plus sample code that fails (and succeeds elsewhere) up here ASAP.
