It's an incorrect translation of english text and means "In case of error the function returns FALSE, unless it was called as @readfile()...". Proper translation should be: "В случае возникновения ошибки вернёт FALSE, и (если только функция не была вызвана как @readfile()) выведет сообщение об ошибке". But I on myself suppose that notice about @readile() call should be removed, since it's not specific for readfile() function and @ is used to suppress exceptions and errors in almost any statement.
