I cannot verify this problem with the 5.1.1 release when compiling from source.

Could you please state exactly which version of PHP and the crack extension you are using and post a link to the binary and source RPMs for those versions? Does this happen with Fedora Core aswell (I don't have access to a RHEL-machine).
