To clarify, is the problem with one of the IMAP functions or the 
mailparse_msg_free() function?

If it's the mailparse_msg_free() function result, then that should be
reported on the PECL bug tracker at
http://pecl.php.net/bugs/report.php?package=mailparse as the mailparse
extension is maintained there rather than within PHP proper.
