the string "kdxkdx" encoded in utf-8 or ISO-8859-1 craches in PHP 5.1
and tested in latest snapshot: php-5.3-win32-VC6-x86

Reproduce code:
---------------
$txt = iconv("ISO-8859-1", "UTF-8", "kdxkdx");

echo metaphone($txt);

Expected result:
----------------
echo: KTKSKTKS

Actual result:
--------------
PHP CGI crash

and tested in PHP 5.2.8. Problem still occurs.

Small question along the lines, is this true:
