Description:
------------
The Australian PHP developers couldn't be many in numbers, so I'm wondering why we're re-directed to au.php.net for documentation? The site is commonly slow or completely unavailable (like now). Since the help pages are low in bandwidth, and Australia has the worst ISP's in the world (we rank well below dozens of third world countries), perhaps it would be possible to re-direct Australian requests to another country that would have the latent capacity to handle them rather than using an Australian service?

I'm not sure what telco is supporting the pages in Australia, but there aren't many that could be relied upon to provide decent service.

There are three Australian mirrors, au.php.net,
au2.php.net & au3.php.net.

You can pick your preferred mirror at
http://php.net/my.php

We are not going to redirect you to another country as in
theory the mirror closest to you should be the fastest
one.

Thankyou for the reply.

The settings wouldn't stay consistent for very long, as my browser cookies need removing quite frequently, nonetheless I'll hang onto the link. But not to worry, uk.php.net has turned out to be about 10 times faster than the local mirror, au.php.net, and much more reliable (so far).

"in theory the mirror closest to you should be the fastest"

People keep telling me that software engineering is a similar discipline to accountancy. Truthfully though, I'd have to say that software engineering requires a lot more faith.

Kind Regards,

Rolf.
