libphp5.so file is not being created, other users have reproduced this, however none of their solutions work for me.  One solution was an issue with libxml2 not being in the right directory, so I built the latest libxml2 from source, and had it install in /usr/local.

Another solution was by editing the libtool script, however, I'm not sure what needs to be done to get it to work.  It also sounded like this was a 64 bit issue, I am running 32 bit Ubuntu (albeit on an AMD 64 bit CPU).

Reproduce code:
---------------
./configure --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs
make clean
make
make install

Expected result:
----------------
libphp5.so file should be created

Actual result:
--------------
*** Warning: inter-library dependencies are not known to be supported.
*** All declared inter-library dependencies are being dropped.

*** Warning: libtool could not satisfy all declared inter-library
*** dependencies of module libphp5.  Therefore, libtool will create
*** a static module, that should work as long as the dlopening
*** application is linked with the -dlopen flag.
copying selected object files to avoid basename conflicts...
