To reproduce it:
Download imap-2001a and unpack it.
Compile it with make slx SSLTYPE=none
Configure apache as usual
In PHP source directory run ./configure \ --with-imap=../imap2001a
You'll get:
configure: error: This c-client library is built with SSL support. 
     
      Add --with-imap-ssl=<DIR> to your configure line. Check config.log for details.

Notice above that I told imap to make WITHOUT SSL support?

Workaround:
Remove the references to ssl_onceonlyinit() in the configure script (lines 36345 and 36347). Now configure will run just fine.

This bug has been fixed in CVS.

In case this was a PHP problem, snapshots of the sources are packaged
every three hours; this change will be in the next snapshot. You can
grab the snapshot at http://snaps.php.net/.
 
In case this was a documentation problem, the fix will show up soon at
http://www.php.net/manual/.

In case this was a PHP.net website problem, the change will show
up on the PHP.net site and on the mirror sites in short time.
