after installing php 4.2.1 , IIS 5 settings were not changed automaticly as they were supposed to.

Can you give us some more information please? 
e.g. Did you get the window which allowed you to select 
the IIS script mapping nodes you wanted php to apply to? 
Did you tick any? Did you look in the management console 
to see if the changes had been made? Did you run the 
installer as a user who had sufficient privileges to 
configure IIS?

Fix assignment

checked every needed node.
installation was run as administrator.
checked with management console.
ok , i found a few things.
the only thing the installer is not chaging properly is the default page list.
except that everything is good.

I don't think the installer has any business changing the 
default page list. It's job is to do the minimum possible 
changes to get php working.
