apache2/bin/apachectl start fails with:
Cannot load /usr/local/apache2/modules/libphp4.so into server: cannot open shared object file: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory

the libphp4.so file is in the modules directory along with the libphp4.la file.

This is a recent CVS apache2.  I tried to use the CVS version of PHP4 (just got it today) but buildconf chokes:

rebuilding main/php_config.h.in
autoheader: error: shell error while sourcing /tmp/ah21791/traces.sh

My system is:
Linux kernel 2.4.4
autoconf 2.5
automake 1.4
gcc 2.95.2.1
glibc 2.2.3

PHP4.0.5 was configured with the following directives:
--with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs
--with-openssl=/usr/local/ssl
--with-gettext=/usr/local
--with-mcrypt=/usr/local/lib
--with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql
--with-pdflib=/usr/local/lib
--with-sablot=/usr/local

Please do not report bugs in this. Apache2 is still under
heavy development (still alpha level) so it's no use to 
report occasional bugs. As the PHP sapi for it is also
under development, you need to get the CVS version.

Try the snapshots found at http://snaps.php.net/
so you don't have to use buildconf..
