There is misformat on http://ru.php.net/manual/en/function.substr.php .

On "lenght" parameter description, parameter identifier "start" has misformatted as function (i.e. <b>start()</b> instead of <i>start</i>).

This bug has been fixed in SVN.

Snapshots of the sources are packaged every three hours; this change
