The description of the return values of the function is incomplete.

In the case of an RSA public key the function returns between the array elements "key" and "type" an array "rsa" consisting of 2 strings "n" and "e" containing the binary values of the module and exponent respectively. I guess that the other key types probably also return some extra useful information.

Please amend the online manual.

This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.
