Any suggestion to make php4 works under Mac OS X
(Darwin) systems ?
Thank you.

Could you please try latest snapshot from http://snaps.php.net/
to check whether this has been fixed already? (should be)

And do use --disable-pear for now (this hasn't been fixed yet).

No feedback. Try PHP 4.0.4 and reopen this bug report if it doesn't work.

OK, finally I've isolated this problem and I think that it is related to the HFS+ file system that I use in my MacOS X / Darwin partition:
the PHP configuration script need to write a file called "pear" into the "pear" directory but into this location a directory called "PEAR" already exists. This is not a problem in standard UNIX file system but I've installed MacOS X into an HFS+ partition and HFS+ is case preserving, but case insensitive thus the "PEAR" directory and the "pear" file can't coexists at the same level.

To walkaround this problem I've renamed the "PEAR" directory as "PEAR1" and now the configuration script works without problems.
The "make" command works well and the only problem with the following "make install" commands is that the renamed "PEAR" directory isn't copied into "/usr/local/lib/php/" (I think that copying the "PEAR1" directory manually to "/usr/local/lib/php/" and then renaming it to "PEAR" solve this problem too).

Now I've PHP 4.0.4 installed as Apache 1.3.14 dynamic module under Mac OS X / Darwin.
Great !!!

This problem should't occours when using UFS partition (instead of HFS+) but I also think that its solution is not so complex thus I hope that PHP developers will fix this soon making all HFS+ user happy with PHP.

Bye.
