phpinfo.php: parse error, expecting `'('' on line 1
<?php phpinfo();?>

Even *I* couldn't mess up a script this short... Can I?

It seems to be making the 'o' bold in the error message...

This is not my month...

I can't even get 4.0.1pl2 to work on Linux, the gods must be against me...

It's a "garbage sink" install (everything I could install, I did) from a RedHat CD that comes with the book "Master Red Hat Linux Visually".

Downloaded PHP source from php.net, got the same results.

Are you sure you don't have a prepend file or something similar? Can you try RC1 from http://www.php.net/~andi/

4.0.2RC1 worked.
Dunno why 4.0.1pl2 went crazy...
