I wrongly submitted this bug via PHP feedback.
I'm resending it here:

Today I tried to compile the PHP4.0 RC1 as apache module on a HP-UX 10.20 (GCC 2.7.2.2) system, but I faced a problem:

after the APACHE untar and configure, I ran the PHP4 configure as below

./configure --with-informix --with-apache=../apache_1.3.6 --enable-track-vars

All went fine, but when I tried to run make, I see the following message:

Syntax error at line 32

and it immediatly stops.
I was able to find the this error is coming because the LTLIBRARY_SHARED_NAME variable is empty in the build/library.mk (at line 32).
I tried to fill up this variable with something, and the compilation actually started, but it failed after a while with a similar syntax error (may be on another variable, but I didn't investigate).

FYI: the PHP 3.0.14 modules were compiled without problems.

If you need more info, just ask.

Cesare
