Bug #2702 mail() function does not function
Submitted: 1999-11-11 23:05 UTC Modified: 1999-11-22 01:21 UTC
From: katzj at linuxpower dot org Assigned:
Status: Closed Package: Misbehaving function
PHP Version: 4.0 Beta 2 OS: Linux (RH6, 2.2.13-pre14)
Private report: No CVE-ID: None
 [1999-11-11 23:05 UTC] katzj at linuxpower dot org
Anything that does mailing will do it, simple example --

mail("katzj@linuxpower.org", "test email", "this is a test", "From: katzj@linuxpower.org <katzj@linuxpower.org>");

Doesn't even try to connect to sendmail, based on sendmail logs. Same script worked fine under 3.0.12. I tried to compile CVS from today, but zend won't compile (separate bug report coming in for that one), so I can't say about that.

./configure  --with-mysql --enable-trackvars --with-apache=../apache_1.3.9.

Can you verify that this is in either the latest CVS or one of the recent snapshots?

This is somewhat a dup of Bug #2708.

The mail is not sent on Win32 platforms if the size is > 4K

Actually, after closer inspection and the help of Evan Klinger, it appears this was due to the fact that sendmail_path was not set. Under php 3, this caused it to default and work properly, but this is not so with php 4. Changing sendmail_path to equal the path (with options) of sendmail caused it to begin working. Should probably either be changed to match the old behavior or marked as a difference between versions.

Thanks
