Bug #1931 Segmentation Fault on Fopen

My simple code as it is now:

<BODY>
<?
     $fd = fopen("http://www.php.net/","r");
     fclose($fd);
?>
</BODY>
</HTML>

Produces this in my log file:

[Fri Jul 30 12:08:49 1999] [notice] child pid 5464 exit signal Segmentation faul
t (11)

This happens every time and Netscape tell me document contains no data.
How can I fix this?  I'm trying to use this routine to eventually verify that a URL is a valid one... So I will be making the filename variable at some point.  Please help...

How did you build PHP?  And have you upgraded your glibc on that RH-5.2 box?  If the answer
to the second question is yes, and you built PHP as a DSO using APXS, you have hit a known
bug.  The quickest solution is to grab the Apache cvs snapshot from dev.apache.org

This problem is fixed in recent versions of Apache/PHP
