running make, I get no such file or directory for the following:

freetype.h
	[gdttf.o] Error 1

Leaving directory `/php-4.0b1/ext/gd'
	[all-recursive] error 1

Leaving directory `/php-4.0b1/ext/'
	[all-recursive] error 1

You need to install the freetype-devel RPM.

(Or otherwise make sure the freetype headers are
available.)
