The comment block /* ... */ will exit at the first > in the block verses the action in 5.2.5 where the code was written and tested.

I was unable to reproduce the bug you described. Are you sure there is no ?> somewhere in the comment? Did you supplied the right example code? Is there some non-ASCII character in your file? It may help us if you put the file up for download somewhere.

In your 5.2.5 installation short_open_tags was enabled. In your current installation it's not.
