This page mentions that references are not like C pointers, but after reading the entire page, I still have no idea why the comparison isn't a good one. There should be further explanation; otherwise, that statement should be removed, because it's confusing.

This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.
