Bug #19565 line comment interprets ?>
Submitted: 2002-09-23 18:39 UTC Modified: 2002-09-24 10:52 UTC
From: su-php at bossi dot com Assigned:
Status: Not a bug Package: Scripting Engine problem
PHP Version: 4.2.1 OS: Win 2K
Private report: No CVE-ID: None
 [2002-09-23 18:39 UTC] su-php at bossi dot com
A single line comment still interprets the ?> character sequence.

---------------------------------
<?
// some text

// the next line is OK, block comment
/* <input name="<?= $ip_name ?>"> */

// the next line is the problem
// <input name="<?= $ip_name ?>">

// all done
?>
---------------------------------

The above snippet will show the following on the web page, even though NOTHING should show:

"> // all done ?>

Sorry, but the bug system is not the appropriate forum for asking
support questions. Your problem does not imply a bug in PHP itself.
For a list of more appropriate places to ask for help using PHP,
please visit http://www.php.net/support.php

Thank you for your interest in PHP.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us, but this is not
a bug. Please double-check the documentation available at
http://www.php.net/manual/ and the instructions on how to report
a bug at http://bugs.php.net/how-to-report.php

Ok, so it is defined in the manual.

However this is not intuitive behaviour.....
