Running apache 1.3.23 on a Mac ( OS X ) with the 
www.entropy.ch PHP 4.2.1 module installed I found that a 
user defined session handler working with a postgresql 
database doesn't work on this system whereas it works 
flawlessly on a linux box 2.4.0 kernel with apache 1.3.14 
and PHP 4.0.6.
The write function works perfectly, trying to retrieve a 
session variable returns NULL ( in var_dump() ).

Please realize that PHP 4.2.1 does not support OSX.  As of yet, the only codebase that natively supports OSX is that from the CVS HEAD (tenatively 4.3.0).  Please try with that and report back if this is still true.

Marking as bogus until that time.
